The County Clinic offers nursing support and advice for patients with Orthopaedic conditions.
Sian and Cathy are both highly experienced nurses who provide a personal, professional service working alongside the Consultants.
They are involved in the care and treatment of patients requiring:
- Wound care and removal of sutures.
- Fitting of supports, braces and crutches.
- Phlebotomy (taking bloods).
- Plaster cast removal.
- Shockwave therapy (see Shockwave service)
Wound care and removal of sutures
The nurses are involved in providing wound care, following trauma or post-surgery.
The nursing team will usually see you 2 weeks after your operation when they will remove your sutures or clips as instructed by your Consultant. If you have any concerns at any stage regarding your wound, please phone either your Consultant’s secretary or The County Clinic on 01604 795410. If it is out of hours please contact your GP or go to A&E.
Fitting of supports, braces and crutches
Sian and Cathy are involved in fitting a variety of supports and braces including pneumatic walkers, post-operative walking shoes and hallux valgus splints.
Plaster cast removal
The nursing team are involved in the removal of plaster casts, and assist consultants in the reapplication of casts.
Sian and Cathy take blood samples when requested and are responsible for the collection of the samples and for keeping a record of when the results are sent back to the County Clinic.
The nurses will assist the Consultants when they are giving injections. These may be steroid or Viscosupplementation injections.
Our nursing team also assist the radiology consultants with the delivery of ultrasound guided corticosteroid injections.
